“From birth, man carries the weight of gravity on his shoulders. He is bolted to earth. But man has only to sink beneath the surface and he is free.”
Jacques-Yves Cousteau
When Tobias Friedrich was a child he loved to watch the adventures of the Calypso with Jacques-Yves Cousteau as it's captain and the beautiness of the world that is below the ocean's surface. It's still an overwhelming feeling for him when he has the chance to dive. He loves the elegancy and calmness of the world under water standing in contrast to the hectic atmosphere above.
He is shooting with a Canon EOS 5D Mark II in an UK-GERMANY housing. Most used lenses under water are the Canon 17-40mm wideangle and the 100mm Canon macro lense. The pictures are lighted with two Ikelite DS-125 strobes and positioned by ULCS strobe arms.
Tobias is a professional underwater photographer and photographs as well as writes stories for diving magazines (like UNTERWASSER, TAUCHEN, ATLANTIS, ...) on a regular basis. He has won several prices in pretigious international underwater photo competitions (EPSON Red Sea, Beneath the Sea, Celebrate Our Sea, ....). |
